Mary Ann (Camp) Morris

Joseph and Margaret Camp, 6 mi. W. of Gaffney, S.C.- graveyard in garden- Joseph died 1838.  Margaret died 1832.  Children: Peter Quinn (m. Narcissa Sarratt), Mary Ann (m. Samuel Morris), Saul Apishai (m. Harriet Sarratt), Missaniah Smith (m. George Petty), Louise Marah (m. Andrew Bonner), Sallie Catherine (m. Samuel Austell), Margaret Camell was killed by lightning, Cassa Melvina & Julia died of fever 1837, Joseph Pinkney died 3 yrs old, Nancy Adeline (m. Oliver McArthur), William Daniel (m. Miss Low), Joseph Pinkney Franklin (m. Julia Smith).

Mary Ann Camp married about 1826- no marriage records kept in S.C.  Lived in Henry Co., Ga., moved to Cass Co., Ga, about 1855.  Murdered by a slave March 1836.  Buried in first grave in Glade Church Cem. in Cass (now Bartow) Co., Ga.  Negro hanged lawfully at Cassville, court records destroyed by Sherman.  Husband with 5 children removed to Henry Co., Ga.

Brunswick, Ga., 1912.  Minerva M.1, Jesse Peeples- Issue: Samuel, Melissa, Josephus, & Edward; m.2, Wilson Godwin- Issue: Jack, Josie, & Lilian.    d. Douglas Co., Ga., 1881.  Pinkney died in married in Tex.  Catherine m. Willis H. West- Issue: Lila, Priscilla, Pinkney, Fannie, Sallie, Emma, Franklin, Bettie, & John.  d. Campbell Co., Ga., 1922.  Sarah Ann m. Wm. L. Friddell- Issue: James, Eugenia, Ophelia, & Fletcher.  d. Douglas Co., Ga., 1883.

John W. West, Pres. N.G. College 1925-33, founder of Fair of 1850, youngest grandchild of Mary Ann (Camp) Morris, lovingly places this marker to her memory, Mothers Day, 1936- 100 yrs after her death.
