Miss Sally M. Akin Died Thursday At St. Augustine, Fla.

Death came early Thursday morning for Miss Sallie Mae Akin, in a nursing home at St. Augustine, Florida, after a lingering illness due to her advanced age of 88 years.

Funeral services will be held at 11:30 o’clock Friday morning at Trinity Episcopal Church, in St. Augustine, after which the remains will later be transported to the family lot in the Cassville cemetery for interment.

Miss Akin was a daughter of the late Warren and Mary Verdery Akin, and she was born in Cartersville November 9, 1872.  Possessing a brilliant literary mind, Miss Akin in early life became a professional librarian and for twenty years she was librarian at the Washington Memorial Library in Macon.  Her efficient attention to detail attracted the attention of many other library workers, some of whom traveled great distances to learn first hand of her efficient handling of details.

Resigning her position in Macon twenty years ago, Miss Akin moved to St. Augustine, and until ill health made it impossible to continue her activities, she operated successfully a book and curio shop in Florida’s most historic community.

The late Paul F. and John W. Akins, distinguished Georgia lawyers were her brothers.

Her nephew, Mr. Warren Akin and a niece, Miss Katherine Akin plan to fly Thursday evening to St. Augustine in time to attend funeral services.  She had requested no flowers and no music for her funeral services, friends have been advised.
