Funeral services for Mrs. Ruby Jewel Payne Barnes will be held at 2:30 p.m. today at Jennings Funeral Home Heritage Chapel with the Rev. Willard Willis officiating. Interment will be at Barnsley United Methodist Church Cemetery.

Mrs. Barnes, 85, of 93 Meadow Drive, died Thursday at a Rome health care center. She was born in Gordon County on Oct. 20, 1914, daughter of the late John Luther Payne and Julia Mae Worley Payne. She was a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church. 

Survivors include her widower, Cecil Franklin Barnes, to whom she was married on Dec. 23, 1936; two sons, Billy Barnes, Kingston, and Gary Barnes, Rome; two daughters, Ruth Barnes, Rome and Patsy Adair, Adairsville; two brothers, Ford Payne, Taylorsville, and L.V. Payne, Rome; one sister, Doris Montgomery, Rome, nine grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

(Note: An earlier notice by Jennings Funeral Home stated she was preceded in death by three brothers, Roy, Dewey and Howard Payne and a sister, Floy Payne and pallbearers were Tommy Montgomery, Steven Folds, Pete Price, Ray Lumsden, Jeff Adair and Edward and Jackie Payne.)
