An Old Citizen Gone Mr. J.J. Blakely, one of Polk's oldest and best citizens, passed away Sunday at his home at Taylorsville, aged seventy-seven years. He was born in South Carolina, and in 1858 was united in marriage at Greenville, in that state, with Miss Ann Baldwin, who survives him with one daughter, Mrs. Jas. Caldwell of Taylorsville. The funeral services Monday at Taylorsville were very largely attended and were conducted by Rev. H.H. Popham. Mr. Blakely was a staunch member of the Baptist church, and was an upright, honorable citizen. He took satisfaction in the fact that he was one of the Standard's "star" subscribers, having taken it from its initial number. Respected by all who knew him, it is with deep regret that we chronicle his passing away. |
