A Patriarch Sleeps With His Fathers.

Rev. Elijah Byrd died at the residence of his son, Maj. S. M. Byrd, in Polk county, on Friday, the 22nd inst.

He was in the 84th year of his age; a native of Edgefield South Carolina; has been a prominent and useful citizen, and a valuable member of his church (the M. E. Church South) has lived in this State near fifty, and in Polk county 17 years.  He was always a friend to the needy, and did much to build up and sustain schools and educational interests. –Rome Courier.
