Crumbley

The Rev. Griffin C. Crumbley, 77, of 725 Grassdale Road, Cartersville, died Thursday, December 15, 1988, following an illness of three and a half years.

He was born November 2, 1911 in Carroll County, a son of the late Joseph Crumbley and Beatrice Spruill Crumbley, was a member of the Stoners Chapel Baptist Church and a retired Baptist minister, having retired in August of this year.

The Rev. Crumbley pastured the following area churches in 52 years of pastoral service: Dry Creek Baptist and Stoners Chapel, both in the Adairsville area; Harmony Grove and Morningside Drive, both in Dalton; New Hope and Pleasant Grove, both in Ellijay; Evergreen and Maple Grove, both in Resaca; Union Grove in Calhoun; Mt. Olive in Redbud; N. Canton Baptist in Canton; Pleasant Grove in Fairmount; Mt. Pleasant in Pine Log; Pine Grove and Zion Hill Baptist churches both in Cartersville.

Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Florence Gillespie Crumbley, daughter and son-in-law, Carol and Lewis Ray, Austell; a grandson, Gregory Ray, two brothers, Reece Crumbley, Cartersville and Roy Crumbley, Atlanta; three sisters, Dura Gann, Rome; Jewel Short, Atlanta; Ethel Pitts, Carrollton; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. from the Stoners Chapel Baptist Church with the Revs. Oscar Land, Walton Abernathy and Hubert Woodward officiating.  Interment will be in the Oak Hill Cemetery in Cartersville.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home after 4:p.m. Saturday and the body will lie in state from 1:30 until 2:30 p.m. Sunday.
