It is are painful duty to tell of the death of Mrs. MARY JANE, wife of Dr. HARDY, which occurred on Friday night last, the 7th of this month, at the residence of her husband. In this place, in the 57th year of her age.

Mrs. Hardy was for many years the subject of affliction which she bore with calm submission and unmurmuring resignation to the Divine will.  From early childhood she was a member of the Methodist Church, and throughout a long and useful life always displayed an unwavering faith in the Cross of Christ.  In her last illness, as her life below was gradually and surely passing away, soon to be merged in the better life above, that faith failed not, while her hope of Heaven was calm and assured.  Conscious to the last, she meekly and quietly, hopefully and gladly, resigned herself into the hands of Him, in who, from her infant days, she had placed her trust.

“Gone before, not lost,” we sorrow not for her as those who have no hope, but think of her as among the redeemed on high.  Her virtues are her record on earth, her faith and her good works are her testimonials before God.

She was the eldest daughter of the late Hon. Turner M. Trippe, and leaves behind her a large and sorrowing family circle to mourn her loss.  To her honored and afflicted husband and the motherless little ones we tender our warmest sympathies, commending them to the care of Him who “doeth all things well.”
