A Sad Death.

George Hartness Dies After Being Run Over by Cars.

George Hartness, a young man about nineteen years of age, and a son of Mr. John Hartness, of this city, died from injuries received by being run over by cars, at Cedartown last Friday.

Young Hartness and his father were both in the employ of the East and West road. The young man had just gone to Cedartown to take the position of yardmaster. While on a car that was being switched at the ore banks, near town, his hand slipped from a brake he was holding and he fell from the car and the wheels passed over his leg, mangling it terribly. The limb was amputated. The fall was received at 7 o’clock in the morning and the young man died at 4 o’clock in the afternoon.

His remains were brought here and afterwards carried to Murphy, N. C., for interment.
