Death of Mrs. Howard. The hearts of the whole community were saddened yesterday morning by the intelligence of the death of Mrs. J. J. Howard, which occurred at the residence of her son, Mr. W. H. Howard, on Tuesday night, about 8 o’clock. Mrs. Howard has been declining in health for the past eight months or more and in the past few days she grew so bad that but little hope was entertained for her recovery. Mrs. Howard was 67 years of age, and through all those years she was everything that a true and noble woman could be. She was a member of the Baptist church for a long number of years, and every act and word of hers was that of a consecrated Christian. Mrs. Howard was the wife of our esteemed fellow citizen, Col. J. J. Howard. Her children are Mr. W. H. Howard, the banker, and Mrs. R. A. Clayton, of this city, and Mrs. T. B. Cabiness, of Forsyth, Ga. The funeral services occurred yesterday afternoon at 3 o’clock, which was conducted by Rev. Jas. S. Hillhouse. A large number of her friends and relatives attended the funeral exercises. The bereaved ones have the sincere sympathy of all. |
