Three Members Well Known Family Succumbed to Attacks Influenza

Messrs. Cliff Bryant and Fount Hubbard, Cousins, and Their Grandmother, Mrs. John Hubbard, Passed Away Within Three-Day Period

Mr. Cliff Bryant, a young man about twenty years old, died on Wednesday of last week at his home on the Walter White place.

His grandmother, Mrs. Sarah Hubbard, wife of Mr. John Hubbard, passed away on Wednesday.

His cousin, Mr. Fount Hubbard, who was twenty-five years old, was the third member of his family, all of whom lived within the same house to died, passed away on Thursday.

Thus chronicled one of the most unusual cases ever recorded in Bartow County, and forcibly brings to the attention of the public the serious nature of the influenza epidemic, which is still proving itself a problem to the medical world.

All three of these deaths were caused by pneumonia, brought on by influenza.  The family had just moved to their present home, and had hardly settled down when practically every member became bed-ridden.  Neighbors were summoned, and physicians were called in, but despite this attention, death claimed the two young men and their grandmother.

CLIFF BRYANT

The death of Mr. Cliff Bryant, the first one to pass away, occurred Wednesday about noon, and his funeral was held at the Rowland Springs Church the next day, Thursday, Rev. Mr. Sandy Bennett being in charge of the services.

He is survived by his mother, Mrs. Amanda Bryant, one sister, Mrs. Fount Hubbard, and one brother, Mr. Jennings Bryant.

Jennings Bryant, who is about nineteen years of age, was the victim of a very painful accident last Thanksgiving day, having lost his foot when a gun accidentally discharged.  He has not fully recovered from this accident, and is hardly able to be out.

MRS. HUBBARD

Mrs. John Hubbard, grandmother of Cliff Bryant, died on Thursday afternoon, while funeral services were being held for him.  She was seventy-three years old, and before her marriage was Miss Sarah Hanes, a member of one of the prominent families of Cherokee County.  Her husband, who survives, is now sixty-six years old and is a highly respected citizen and a Confederate Veteran.  Because of the serious illness of other members of the family, her funeral was not held until Saturday.

FOUNT HUBBARD

Mr. Fount Hubbard, aged twenty-five and who had been raised by his grandparents, was the next to die, passing away on Friday.  He was married about a year ago to his cousin, Miss Bryant, and she survives.
His funeral as well as that of his grandmother, was conducted at the Rowland Springs Church on Saturday and again, Mr. Bennett had charge of the services.

The triple bereavement which has entered this home has brought much sorrow to those who knew the deceased.  The two young men were employed at the Dobbins mine, and bore excellent reputations, and were practically the sole support for their grandparents, and other members of the large family, all of whom lived under one roof.  After Mr. Jennings Bryant lost his foot, they were the sole support.  Their illness and death left the family destitute abut kind-hearted neighbors and friends came to the rescue, and all were given a credible interment.

The Tribune News has been requested by the surviving members of the family to extend their heartfelt and sincere thanks to all who have come to their rescues in their hour of distress and trouble.

[ NOTES:  All three are buried at the Rowland Springs Cemetery.]
