Death of Mrs. Johnson.

Died, on Monday morning, August 17th, at her home on Erwin Street, Mrs. Mary Curry Johnson, wife of Dr. Lindsay Johnson, of this city.  She had been seriously ill for quite a while, and her death had been expected for days and weeks.  She was conscious of her approaching end, and met death quietly, calmly, triumphantly.  She passed into eternity as peacefully and gloriously as the sun sets in a summer sky.  Not a cloud or a shadow dimmed the way.  In her last moments she was painless, peaceful and happy.  Mrs. Johnson had lived from her girlhood a beautiful, Christian life.  She was a devoted member of the Baptist Church, and was ever faithful and unfaltering in the discharge of her Christian duty.  She was truly a grand woman – beautiful in person, lovely in disposition, winning in manners, pure in impulses, and devoted in her life.

The funeral exercises took place at the family residence yesterday morning at ten o’clock.  The services, by her request, were conducted by Dr. Headden of Rome, her former pastor, and Mr. Daniel the present pastor of the Church.  A large number of sorrowing friends listened to the impressive services, and at eleven o’clock the funeral procession moved solemnly to the city cemetery where she was laid to rest.  She leaves a husband and three children to mourn her death.
