“Over the County— Kingston.”

Mrs. Matilda Johnson, an old mother in Israel, died in Rome on the 9 th inst., at the advanced age of 84. Her remains were brought to Kingston on the 10 th, accompanied by her two daughters, Mrs. Tippon and Mrs. Madden, and a large crowd of relatives and friends. Dr. J. A. Johnson and wife, of Calhoun, and Mr. Jesse Johnson, of Atlanta, met them here, and after a most excellent sermon by Dr. R. B. Headden, pastor of the First Baptist church at Rome, the large concourse of friends and relatives marched to the cemetery, where all that was mortal of Mother Johnson was consigned to the dark and silent tomb. The deceased had been a consistent member of the Baptist church for fifty years, and died as she had lived, a true Christian.

DIED YESTERDAY
Mrs. Matilda Johnson Died at the Home of Her Daughter

At an early hour yesterday morning, Mrs. Matilda Johnson, an aged mother in Israel quietly breathed her last: or many months she has been in feeble health and seemed to be patiently waiting the summons to come up higher.

“Like one who wraps the drapery of his couch about him and lies down to pleasant dreams, she fell asleep in the arms of the blessed “Master.”  For more than a half century she had been a member of the Baptist church.

Mrs. Johnson was residing with Mrs. Tippin, her daughter, at the time of her death.  Seven of her children have preceded her into the great beyond.  Those who survive her are Mrs. M.H. Tipppin and Mrs. Madden of this city and Mrs. Kate Kenedy [Kennedy] of Tyler, Texas; Mr. Will Johnson of Tyler, Texas; Dr. J.A. Johnson, of Calhoun, Ga; and Dr. Marion Johnson of Chillicothe, Texas.

The remains will be carried to Kingston this morning and the funeral will occur at that place at 10 o’clock a.m.
