Joe P. Kay, 77, of 204 Fite St., Cartersville, died Monday, December 30 at Humana Hospital-Cartersville following an extended illness. Kay was born December 6, 1908 in Bartow County, the son of the late Oscar Franklin Kay and Lula Estelle Cornwell. He was a carpenter, a veteran of World War II, serving in the Navy and was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include one daughter, Mrs. Charlotte Billings, Sarasota, Florida; two brothers, Marvin Kay, Cartersville and Oscar F. Kay, Acworth; three sisters, Mrs. Louise Paul, Cartersville, Mrs. Helen Milligan, Punta Gorda, Florida and Mrs. Mozelle Cleveland, Fort Myers, Florida; one stepdaughter, Mrs. Shirley Maddox, Largo, Florida; one stepson, Edward Stallings, Largo, Florida; four grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and six step-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, January 2, from the chapel of the Kirkland-Jennings Funeral Home with the Rev. John Yarbrough officiating. Interment will follow in Taylorsville Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at Kirkland-Jennings Funeral Home after 5 p.m. Tuesday. Pallbearers are asked to meet at Kirkland-Jennings Funeral Home at 1:30 p.m. Thursday. They are Eugene Buford, George Buford, David Paul, Tony Atchley, Wayne Aiken and Oscar Frank Kay.
Kirkland-Jennings Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
