Our town was grieved when on the afternoon of the 25 th the news was told that Mrs. J. C. Martin was dead. She had been in bad health for several years. She was seventy years of age; was a native of Virginia, but had lived in this community a good many years. At one time she kept the hotel here, and was indeed a woman much to be admired.

The funeral services were held at the Baptist church, of which she had been a member for long years, and afterward the remains were interred at the new cemetery beside those of her husband Mr. J. C. Martin the sympathies of all go out to her children, who are: Mr. Robert Martin and Mrs. Mary Williams, of this place; Mrs. Rosa Kenion of Kentucky; Mr. Wm. W. Martin, of Atlanta, and Mr. John Martin, of Chattanooga, all of whom were present at the funeral except Mrs. Kenion, who sent floral offerings which were magnificent.
