Mrs. M’Elroy Dead.
Good Woman Dies at Home of Her Son, In This City.

Mrs. Margaret McElroy, a highly respected and estimable old lady, died at the home of her son, Mr. O. R. McElroy, on Douglas street, Saturday morning at nine o’clock.

Mrs. McElroy was 74 years old and has enjoyed good health the past few years, but received a fall about a month ago and it is thought that owing to her advanced years it helped bring on her death.

She was born and reared in Clark county, near Athens, and was married to Hon. William L. McElroy, of the same place, about 1860.  When the war broke out Mr. McElroy joined the confederate army and made a brave and noble soldier and was killed in a battle near Knoxville, Tenn., near the close of the war.  He was a member of the 55th Georgia regiment.

After the war Mrs. McElroy moved to Lawrenceville, in Gwinett county, and lived with her father, Hon. Nicholas Wallace.  She moved to this county in 1887 and has lived with her son. Mr. O. R. McElroy.  She was a consistent member of the Methodist church for about forty years and was loved and respected by all who knew her.  Mrs. McElroy was ever ready and willing to administer to the sick and this good and kind lady did lots of good even in her old age, being called on a short while ago to nurse the sick.

The funeral services were conducted from the home of her son, Mr. O. R. McElroy, on Douglas street, Sunday afternoon at two o’clock, Rev. H. B. Mays, of the Sam Jones Memorial church, conducting the services.  Interment took place at Oak Hill cemetery.
