In the same district on the 13th inst., of lung disease, Mr. JNO. S. OWENS, aged 50 years.  All with whom he came in contact, either in a social or business way, were favorably impressed with his cheerful, generous, open-hearted disposition, and he made many friends in all parts of the county.  He had a very retentive memory, and he was probably better acquainted with the history of his county than any other living man of his day.  He knew nearly every family in the county, and was liked by all.  His manners were agreeable, and he had no trouble in insinuating himself into the good graces of all with whom he met.  He was elected tax collector before and after the war, and was considered the best electioneer the county ever had since the days of John Word.  He was confined to his bed more or less for the past year.  On Sunday evening just before he died he talked calmly about death and expressed his readiness and willingness to go, and requested those present to sing “Home, Sweet Home.”  These were his last words.  A few moments after the hymn was sung he passed peacefully away, and we hope and believe he has gone to that better country beyond the grave, where the mortal puts on immortality, and life becomes an endless splendor.
