Mr. William J. Patterson, 76, of 55 Southern Road, Cartersville, died Saturday, Jan. 1, 2000 at Cartersville Medical Center.

Mr. Patterson was born July 12, 1923, in Bartow County, son of the late Jack Patterson and Bertie Martin Patterson. He was retired from Lockheed after 34 years of service.  He was a member of Oakland Heights Baptist Church and the C.H.V.A. Club.  He was preceded in death by his parents and a son, Jimmy Patterson.

Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Black Patterson; two sons and daughters-in-law, Hoyt and Vanessa Patterson and Michael and Linda Patterson, all of Cartersville; a sister, Doris Mercer; six grandchildren, Ryan Johnson, Sonya Edmondson, Amanda Patterson, Brianna Patterson, Danielle Patterson and Sara Patterson; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 4, 2000, at Oakland Heights Baptist Church with Rev. Sammy Burgess and Rev. Jimmy Blackburn officiating. Mr. Patterson will lie in state from noon until the funeral hour at the church.  Interment will be in the Oak Hill Cemetery.

Serving as pallbearers will be Glenn Southern, Jeff Southern, Steve Southern, Ray Southern, Ryan Johnson and Scott Edmondson. Honorary pallbearers will be Albert Weems, Everett Chastain, Herman Martin, Frank James and Tony Tidwell.

The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Monday, Jan. 3, 2000 at the Parnick Jennings Funeral Home.

The Parnick Jennings Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 430 Cassville Road, Cartersville is in charge of the arrangements.
