A Sad Death.

Miss Leola Gertrude Posey, daughter of B. F. and Amanda L. Posey, was born in Bartow county, Georgia, February 18th, 1876, and died at the home of her parents in the village of Cass Station, in the same county, October 11, 1897. Miss Leola was converted under the ministry of Rev. Charles Wright and joined the church at 12 years of age, and at the time of her death was a member of the Cassville Baptist church. She was not a common character. Her thoughts at home seemed always for the pleasure and comfort of the other members of the family, rather than herself. Out in the community she was appreciated and loved for her never failing sympathy for the sick and suffering, and her untiring ministries to their comfort.

Realizing the assault of death, she said to her mother, that she was dying and was going home. The mother proposed prayer, that “this cup” might pass, to which she assented; but said “Thy will be done!” She said she was prepared to go, but would like to live to exhort young people to live right. She afterward sang: “Are You Ready for the Judgment Day,” and being asked if she was ready, she said: “I am ready,” and began to sing: “I want to go where Jesus is,” after which she called the family about her bed, bade them good bye, and besought them to meet her in heaven, and soon took her flight to the home above.

The writer preached her funeral in Cassville Baptist church to a large crowd, the presence of which witnessed how widely she was loved and appreciated.

As the sun hung on the western horizon we turned away from her new made grave in old Cassville cemetery, and left her mortal remains resting under the bank of wreaths and crosses that gentle hands had laid there; but thought of her spirit as “present with the Lord,” on high.

Robert P. Martyn.
