Last Rites for Mrs. J. W. Stanford Held Here Monday

Impressive funeral services for Mrs. James W. Stanford, Sr., were conducted Monday afternoon at two o’clock from the Chapel of the Owen Funeral Home with the Rev. A. B. Elizer, pastor of the Sam Jones Methodist Memorial Church officiating. Interment followed in the family lot in Oak Hill Cemetery.

The group of pallbearers included: Rowland White, Carl Winterbottom, Paul Gilreath, Steve Wiley, Ben Collier, Tom Champion and honorary pallbearers were: R. W. Knight, T. V. Gemes, Jim Shaw, Walter Hawkins, W. W. Young, W. N. Shaden and Jack Hill.

Mrs. Stanford, a beloved resident of Cartersville for many years, passed away at her home Sunday morning following a confinement of several months. She suffered a fall at her home last week, receiving a hip injury. At the time she was slowly recovering from an injury suffered several months ago.

Long identified with the Missionary Society of the Sam Jones Church, where she was a faithful member until her confinement, Mrs. Stanford was loved by all who knew her.  Her interest in life was found in her friends and her flower garden, which she took great pride in showing during the past years.

She was before her marriage the former Beulah Willingham, a native of Texas. Her husband, the late J. W. Stanford, who passes away in 1933, was a well known merchant in Cartersville for many years.

Mrs. Stanfford is survived by one son, Dr. J. W. Stanford, Jr., of Cartersville, two grandsons, James W. Stanford, III, Cartersville, and Robert W. Stanford stationed in Istanbul, Turkey; and one brother, Frank Willingham of Augusta.
