J.D. (Johnny) Tidwell, age 79, of Route 3, Cartersville, died Monday, April 24, 1978, following an extended illness.

Tidwell was a native of Bartow County, a member of the Clear Creek Baptist Church, and was a retired farmer and dairyman.  A son of the late Marion Tidwell and Ada Leach Tidwell, he is survived by his widow, Lucy House Tidwell; two daughters, Mrs. Thelma Bell of Adairsville, and Mrs. Zuella T. Atkins of Cartersville; five sons, J.D. Tidwell, Jr., Hugh Carey Tidwell, Earl Tidwell and Arthur Lee Tidwell, all of Cartersville, and David Tidwell of Cedartown; 26 grandchildren, and a number of great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.  Mr. Tidwell was preceded in death by his children William, Carl and Charles Tidwell, Miss Ovaltine Tidwell, and Mrs. Corrine Tidwell Cornwell.

Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Wednesday from the Cassville Baptist Church with the Rev. Charlie Martin officiating.  Interment was in the Cassville Cemetery.

Serving as pallbearers were Doug and Billy Cornwell, Lee Atkins, Vernon Bell, and Weldon, Don, Larry and Terry Tidwell.
