Burned To Death. From Mr. Joe Turner, tax receiver, the Ringgold New South learns of the sad and awful death of the little six-year-old daughter of Wm. Townsend and wife at Chestnut Flat, in Walker county last Sunday morning. On Saturday morning Mrs. Townsend went out to milk, leaving the little girl in the house with two smaller children. She had been absent but a few minutes when she heard the little girl screaming and rushing back to the house, found her clothing in flames. The fire caught the clothing on the right side and burned upwards and in a few minutes had most horribly burned the child despite the mother’s efforst to extinguish the flames. The little one lingered in agony until Sunday morning when it died. The funeral occurred Monday afternoon at 3 o’clock and all that was earthly of the little one was laid to rest in Gladden cemetery. The funeral services were conducted by Rev. Duckett. Mr. Townsend and wife have many friends in Catoosa county who will deeply sympathize with them in their most sad bereavement. |
