Death of a Good Citizen. We regret to learn of the death, which occurred on Friday last, of Mr. A. J. WEEMS, one of our best and most honored citizens. He had been ill for eight weeks and suffered intensely from the disease that terminated his most exemplary life. During his illness he had no hopes of recovery, and fervently prayed that he might find relief in death which had no terrors for such a good man as he. The funeral services were attended on Saturday last by the largest crowd that had ever assembled at Pine Log church. He was conscious up to within twenty-four hours of his demise. Mr. Weems was born in Abbeville district, S. C., on the 11th of May, 1807; and consequently, was 71 years, 7 months and 2 days old. He came to this country in 1851, where he has lived an honored and Christian citizen, beloved by all and mistrusted by none. We drop a tear to his memory and revere his virtues. |
