The Rev. Arthur Wesley (Buddy) York, 88, died Saturday, Dec. 12, 1998 in Dublin.

He was born Oct. 9, 1910 in Polk County, a son of the late Arthur Newton York and Beulah Locklear York, was a Georgia Baptist pastor for more than 40 years. He pastored many churches during his ministry including Cedartown Second Baptist , Highland Baptist in Griffin, Liberty Baptist (First Baptist) of Lilburn, Dunson Baptist in LaGrange, Lakeview Baptist in Cochran and Shady Grove Baptist in Carrollton. He also served as pastor of the other part-time churches in Georgia and in several interim pastorates.

The Rev. York was a member of Briarlake Baptist Church in Decatur and of the Progressive Men's Bible Class, also in Decatur. He was devoted to evangelism and conducted revivals all over the south and had daily radio programs for years.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Ruby Edwards York and brothers and sisters, Rudy York, Lou York, Adell Campbell and Bonnie Scoggins.

Surviving are daughters, Betty Rose Colwell of Sea Island, Evelyn Joiner of Atlanta, Virginia Reynolds of Dublin, three sons-in-law, five grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, a sister-in-law, Mrs. Flossie Guyton of Cartersville, a brother-in-law, George C. Edwards of Cornelia and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, Dec. 15 at 3 p.m. from the chapel of Owen Funeral Home with Dr. J. Hoffman Harris of Atlanta and the Rev. Joe York officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be grandsons, Bryan Colwell, Clarence and York Reynolds, Kyle Joiner, nephews, Marvin Guyton Jr. and Jimmy Thomas.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home Tuesday from 1-2:30 p.m.

Because of his love for the church, the family is requesting, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to local churches in his memory.

Owen Funeral Home, 12 Collins Drive, Cartersville, is in charge of the arrangements.
