Death of Capt. West

Capt. Amos G. West the iron king, of Cedartown, died on Tuesday. He had been in poor health for some time. His remains passed through this city yesterday, on their way to New York city, to be interred. Capt. West was one of the pioneers of Northwest Georgia’s industrial development, having bought large iron ore properties around Cedartown in 1876, and steadily developed them. He was full of energy and business wisdom and possessed a kind heart. He came originally from Massachusetts. Our sister city will sadly miss him.
