Death of Mrs. Wilkes. Mrs. Mary Jane Wilkes died last Friday. She had not been in good health for several years, but her final illness was only of about two weeks duration. She was 62 years of age and was the daughter of the late Mr. Humphrey Cobb, and a sister of Messrs. George S. and John H. Cobb. With her son Mr. Charles Wilkes and her sister, Miss Lizzie Cobb, she continued to occupy the old family home, on Erwin street, after her father’s death six years ago. Miss Lizzie died two years ago. Mrs. Wilkes was a kind hearted, good woman and possessed many friends. She had been a member of the Baptist church for forty years and until her health declined was active and constant in church work. The funeral took place from the home Saturday afternoon, Rev. A. W. Bealer, of the Baptist church, assisted by Rev. E. M. Craig, of the Presbyterian church, officiating. The remains were interred at Oak Hill. |
