Big Family Reunion.
Members of Jones Family Gather in this City.
Old Home of Late Colonel R. H. Jones Scene of Interesting Assemblage Last Sunday.

On Sunday, August 15th, at the home of Mrs. Colonel Robert Harris Jones, Bartow street, a large number of relations and friends enjoyed a reunion which was in celebration of holy reverence to the living as well as to the deceased.  It was in holy remembrance of the birthday of old Grandfather Jones, August 16.

The family assembled from all parts of the city, Rome, Atlanta and other cities, and about seventy-five exchanged greetings until dinner was announced.  The tables were spread on the lawn under the shade of the large oaks and spruce pines and all enjoyed the hospitality and bounty of this occasion.

After dinner a service was conducted by the Rev. Mr. Parks, Rev. A. P. Jones, which consisted of a talk from Judge Fite in behalf of the renowned Sam P. Jones, one of the noblest and grandest men the world has ever known.  Rev. Mr. Parks gave a general history of the family, having known intimately the old grandfather and grandmother, Col. R. H. Jones, Rev. Joe Jones, Rev. John Jones and Rev. Sam P. Jones.  He narrated instances of interest in connection with each one, and his talk was with feeling and spirit.  Mrs. Sam P. Jones gave a very interesting talk about the family and Rev. Sam P. Jones, and gave counsel and advice to each relative for the coming year, asking prayer for each and every one.  Mrs. Annie Pyron and Mrs. Dr. Felton interested all hearers with their words of love and respect to the family.

Several songs were wafted in the quiet air that sounded sweetly and holy.  “There Will Be No Goodbye in Heaven” “Shall We Gather at the River” and “Blest be the Tie That Binds.”  After the service all enjoyed a watermelon cutting.

The home of Colonel Robert Harris Jones was well fitted for such an occasion, being an old fashioned edifice built over 40 years ago, having a large lawn with oaks planted by Mr. Jones.

The family consists of Mrs. Col. R. H. Jones, Mrs. W. B. Sadler, Lake City, Fla., Mrs. C. R. Bilbro, Mrs. L. J. Jones, Anniston, Ala., Mr. J. W. Jones, Mrs. F. J. Quillian, Mr. H. E. F. Jones.

The reunion will be held next year at the residence of Mr. A. B. Cunyus.  The Jones family is quite an old and distinguished family and to attend a reunion means to enjoy it, for they are noted for hospitality and cordiality.
