“Oak Grove.”

Mr. Thomas Benton Owens, formerly of this place, but now a prominent business man of Rome, was married on the 17 th inst., to one of the “ Hill City’s” fairest daughters, Miss Jennie Louise Hill, daughter of Mr. J. B. Hill, a wealthy merchant of that place. The ceremony took place at the second Methodist church, Rev. T. A. Owens, uncle of the groom officiating. The church was most beautifully decorated, and crowded to its utmost capacity. The presents were numerous and costly. On the next day, last Wednesday, the bride and groom together with a few of their warmest friends and relatives boarded the Rome train for Kingston, and upon their arrival were met by carriages which conveyed them to the lovely country home of Mr. A. D. Owens, brother of the groom, where an elegant reception was tendered them. It was a feast fit for the gods. The table seemed to groan beneath the burden of the good things. Everything that fair hands could prepare was to be had. And last but not least a box of good habannas was passed to the gentlemen and they were greatly enjoyed by many. It was an ideal day, the sun sending its radiant beams beneath the grand old oaks never seemed brighter.

Those present were: Mr. and Mrs. J. B. Hill, Misses Byrd, Gordon and Moore, Rome; Mr. and Mrs. John Davis, Misses Kate and Bessie Harris, T. A. Owens, Messrs. Cliff Owens and Ernest Davis, Taylorsville; Miss Lena Griffin, Cartersville; Mr. R. E. Griffin, Kingston; Mr. and Mrs. W. J. Henderson, Mr. and Mrs. P. C. Griffin, Ligon; Mr. and Mrs. J. E. Fields, Stilesboro; Mr. and Mrs. G. M. Isbell, Ford; Misses Toodie Whitaker, Jessie Harling, Hattie Mae Fink, Minnie Couch, Eddie Dodd, Mabel Jolley and Mrs. E. K. VanMetre, Messrs. J. R. Harling, H. J. Jolley, J. C. Fink, J. C. Owens, Cary Dodd, Euharlee; Joe Harris, Braswell.
