Adairsville. Mr. M. C. Conaway who lives just above here brought a clock up the steps of the Stanton House recently, though looking worn and of an unusual build presented no further attractions. But within its case lies a history but half told, and in its machinery still true revolutions of time and events that are registered on its cogs. Our venerable friend and faithful servant witnessed the inauguration of the 4th president of the United States, and told the hour boldly when the first steamboat was launched. Ringing out dolefully the moment of the death of the south’s chief statesman. This clock is in good running order and was manufactured in Greensboro, Ga., by Davis & Barber. During the 80 odd years of its existence has had but one dollar put upon it for repairs. A gentleman at the hotel is now the proud possessor of this time piece which truly deserves the name of grandfather’s clock. |
