“On Silver Wings”—A 4 column account of the Silver Wedding Anniversary of Rev. Sam P. Jones, taking up much of the front page of this issue. This includes a full column of gifts. An excerpt: “Twenty-five years ago a young man, while hiding from Federal troops, found a comfortable refuge in the home of Mr. McElwaine, near Eminence, Ky. In that home was a daughter, a blonde of graceful carriage, sweet modest ways, and intelligence, and glances exchanged between the two young people soon betokened a ripening affection…..Each departing guest was given a small silvered box with “1868-1893” on its top. The box was bound with a little silken strip.” |
