Gen. Wm. Montgomery Gardner.

We were glad to meet the above old and distinguished soldier in our town this week.  He is a graduate of West Point in the class of 1846, from which he went into the Mexican War.  He continued in the service of the United States until the breaking out of the late war when he joined the fortunes of the confederacy, and was severely wounded at the first battle of Manassas.  The general is now farming four or five miles below Rome.  We wish him success.
