Calvin Irby attempted to murder his wife last Thursday afternoon at four o’clock at the house of Wesley Upshaw at Cassville.  He cut his wife’s throat with a knife.  Dr.. Griffin was called in and says she will not recover.  He attempted to kill her the night before with an ax.  He went to Mrs. Chunn’s house, an aged white lady, the other night and tried to get her to come out of her house, it is not known with what intention.  He is a small black negro, smooth face, rather slim, weighs about 135 pounds.  He has not lived with his wife for two years, and went back to get her to live with him but she would not consent to it.
