Several people have written asking where to obtain a copy of the marriage certificate. Marriage certificates are prepared by the Probate Court in Bartow County for $10.00. To create these certificates, one of the clerks look up the marriage in the Record Book (the same book / image that is attached to this transcript) and transcribe it onto a nice looking form. Please provide the book/page number and names of bride and groom when ordering a Certificate. Click here for Bartow County Government website. We've also been asked if someone could transcribe the "rest of the information". All information from the marriage record has been transcribed. There is no information on parents, or even addresses for the bride/groom. In a few cases, there are ages or birthdates shown on the record, and that information is part of our transcription. |

Jump Over the Broomstick (To). To marry in an informal way. A"brom" is the bit of a bridle; to"jump the brom" is to skip over the marriage restraint, and"broomstick" is a mere corruption. This was taken from The Dictionary of Phrase and Fable by Cobham Brewer, published 1894 ... Thanks to for submitting this information. *********************** Do you know a type of marriage ceremony that might have been performed in Bartow County that would not have been recorded in the marriage books? |
